Proposals
You have practiced the words in the shower for weeks. Let a song say the part your voice might not get through.
A proposal song written about the two of you
If you want music playing when you ask, a song about your own story lands harder than anything on a playlist. Tell us how you met and the moment you were sure, and listen to the first minute before you plan the evening around it.

Hear the second a name lands
Maya and Sam, my heart is yours to hold
You wrote“Sam proposed on the ferry and nearly dropped the ring.”
The song singsThe ring almost slipped right out of Sam's hand
From a real song made here: “Down the Middle”, for Maya and Sam, from what the couple typed.
The moment you give it
The song starts on a small speaker you hid earlier. They hear their name, then the story of you two, and by the time the chorus comes back you're already down on one knee.
PLAY THIS, THEN TURN AROUND · PLAY THIS, THEN TURN AROUND ·
The spot where it started · Just the two of you, and a ring in your jacket pocket

Closest sample: a wedding song with the proposal in it
We have no proposal song yet. "Down the Middle" was made for a wedding, and its second verse is the ring nearly slipping from Sam's hand on a ferry.

What to put in a proposal song
- The moment you knew, with the place and the weather if you remember them.
- A small habit of theirs you want to see every morning from now on.
- Something you have already built together: a home, a dog, a running joke.
- The first time you said I love you, or the time you nearly did.
- The place where you plan to ask, if the song will be playing there.
- Leave the question itself out of the lyrics. You are going to ask it out loud.
For example
Here are three lines a sender might type for a proposal song:
- We met at a friend's barbecue in Austin and argued about hot sauce for an hour.
- She leaves voice memos instead of texts and sings in half of them.
- I'm asking her at the lake where we had our first real fight and made up.
How to play it when you ask
- Let the first verse play before you say a word, so the song sets the mood for you.
- Ask during the chorus, when their name is the word in the air.
- If friends are hiding nearby, hand one of them the phone and the job of pressing play.
- Listen once on your own beforehand, in the car or with headphones, so nothing catches you off guard.
Style and voice
Most proposals suit a slow acoustic pop song or a piano ballad, sung by a voice like your own so it sounds like it comes from you. If the two of you are louder than that, upbeat pop works well for a surprise in front of friends.
