For your dog

Your dog has never once been in a bad mood when you walk in. Somebody should write that down.

A song for dog people, about everything yours gets up to

This is a song for dog owners who already sing to their dog in the kitchen. Tell us their name, their worst habit and their favorite thing in the world, and the chorus sings their name the way you call them in from the yard.

Free to hear: the first 60 seconds in about two minutes. $12.99 only if you keep the full song.

Hear the second a name lands

Waffles, you make our holiday so bright

You wrote“Every Christmas morning she steals one sock from under the tree and runs laps around the couch.”

The song singsUnder the tree you find a single green sock

From a real song made here: “A Christmas Song for Waffles”, for Waffles, from what her family typed.

The moment you give it

Your dog won't know it's their song, and that is fine. You will. Put it on while you clip the leash, and listen to the whole family sing the name back at them.

Any ordinary Tuesday

To: the one asleep on your side of the couch

From: the person they wait at the door for

Play it loud. Watch the ears.

Start with one memory

A real song for a dog

Waffles is a four-year-old corgi who steals one sock from under the tree every Christmas morning. Her family typed three lines; this is the country song that came back, unedited.

How a dog song gets made

  • Type your dog’s name and pick Pet as who they are to you. Unusual name? Add how you say it; a dog called Niamh is sung NEEV.
  • Write up to three short lines: the trick, the habit, the thing they stole. The form offers starters like the leash, their spot on the couch and the socks under the tree.
  • Choose a style and a voice. About two minutes later the first 60 seconds play; keep the whole song for $12.99, or leave it and pay nothing.

What you get for $12.99

One payment, after you have heard the preview. No subscription.

  • The full song, about two minutes, as an MP3 to keep on your phone.
  • The lyric sheet, ready to save as a PDF.
  • A private link to send to the family, the dog walker or the breeder; it plays without an account.
  • A vertical photo video: your dog photos set to the song with the lyrics on screen, made in your browser and sized for phone screens.
  • One free re-record if the name comes out wrong, plus a free remake after you pay if the singer still gets it wrong.
  • A 15-second teaser link you can send before paying.

What to tell us about your dog

Specific beats sweet. "Rufus is a good boy" gives the verse nothing to picture; "Rufus waits at the window at 3:40 for the school bus, every weekday" gives it a time, a place and a habit, and the lyric writes itself around them.

Sounds help too. If your dog has a bark for the doorbell and a different one for the cat next door, or a groan when you say "bath", put it in a line. A chorus can echo the word you shout across the park.

  • Their name, plus every nickname they answer to.
  • Their breed or their best guess of a breed.
  • The trick they are proud of, and the one they refuse to learn.
  • What they do the second you pick up the leash.
  • Their spot: the end of the couch, the sunny patch, your side of the bed.
  • The thing they stole that the family still talks about.

Dog song ideas by age

AgeWhat the song can be about
New puppyThe drive home, the first night in the crate, the shoe that did not survive week one.
One to threeThe zoomies, the training class they nearly passed, the squirrel they will catch one day.
Grown-up dogThe daily routine: the walk at seven, the bark at the mail carrier, the look at dinner time.
Older dogThe grey muzzle, the slower walks, the years of being there; a sweet song for a dog still very much at your feet.

A happy birthday song for your dog

A dog birthday song is mostly made to be posted. Put the age and the party in one line ("Biscuit turns five and gets a peanut butter cake"), choose upbeat pop, and use the photo video: your pictures, the lyrics on screen, upright for a phone, ready for Instagram, TikTok or the family chat.

Gotcha day works the same way. Give us the shelter or the town you brought them home from and the first thing they did in the house, and the verses tell the adoption story while the chorus sings their name.

Occasions a dog song suits

  • Their birthday or gotcha day.
  • Christmas, when the tree is the most interesting thing in the house.
  • A new puppy, as a welcome for the whole family.
  • A birthday present for a friend who talks about their dog more than anything else.
  • Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day sent “from the dog”, written in the dog’s voice.

Picking the sound

Upbeat pop suits a bouncy puppy or a dog who greets every guest like a celebrity. Country fits a farm dog or a truck-ride companion; Waffles’ song above is country with a female voice. Acoustic pop works for the old friend who naps at your feet while you work. If the dog belongs to a kid, keep the lines simple so they can sing along by the second chorus.

Three lines about a terrier could read: "Biscuit barks at the mail carrier every single day." "She sleeps upside down on the couch with her paws in the air." "She learned to ring a bell by the door when she wants to go out."
