What kids notice that parents do not

  • The house or apartment they first lived in as a couple.
  • The small daily thing one does for the other.
  • How they act when they think nobody is watching.
  • The argument they have every year and always laugh about.
  • What they taught you about love without trying.
  • The story of how they met, as they tell it at Thanksgiving.
  • The number of years, and where they married.

Writing it together as siblings

Ask each sibling for one sentence and choose the three that work best side by side. Put one parent's name in the name field and the other in your lines, so the song addresses them both.

For example

Three siblings might send:

  • Mom and Dad met in line at a Memphis record store in 1989.
  • Dad still warms Mom's side of the car before she gets in every winter morning.
  • They slow dance in the kitchen whenever the radio plays anything from the eighties.
