For a colleague or a parent
Teams often make a retirement song for the farewell party. Families make one for a parent finishing a long career. The brief is similar; only the voice changes, from 'we at the office' to 'your kids'.

What to leave out
A retirement song should make everyone at the party nod along.
Not every career happens in an office. A parent retiring from a family farm, a business they built or decades of caregiving deserves a song too. Write about the work in plain terms: the early mornings, the customers who became friends, the parts they will not miss. End with one line about the first thing they plan to do with a free Monday.

- Office politics, or the reasons they are leaving.
- Anything only one person in the room would understand.
