Upbeat pop

A custom pop song with their name as the hook

Upbeat pop is the party style: we ask for bright upbeat pop with clean guitars, punchy drums and a joyful singalong chorus, about 118 beats per minute. When the name is the hook, the whole room ends up singing it.

What our upbeat pop style sounds like

  • Fast, about 118 beats per minute, made for moving.
  • Clean guitars and punchy drums.
  • A big singalong chorus where the name sits.
  • Bright and joyful, never moody.
  • The style that sounds best loud, through a party speaker rather than a phone.

Writing for a pop song

Pop lyrics like energy and a little humor, and they forgive exaggeration. Give one funny, specific line ("He runs half marathons and still gets lost on the way home"), one proud one, and one about today. The chorus will do the rest.

Example brief for a pop song

Funny, specific and pointed at the party; the chorus with her name will carry the rest. For a friend’s 30th:

  • Jada has captained our bowling alley trivia team for three years and always picks the same terrible team name.
  • She runs our group chat like a talk show.
  • Thirty this Saturday, and the party is at that same bowling alley.
